How do you book a taxi in Beit Shemesh in English?

Three ways — the app, a WhatsApp message to +972 53-900-0023, or a call to +972 2-376-7000 — and English works on all three, though not in the same way on each.

In the app you type where from and where to, choose "Now" or "Later" with a time, and then see the drivers available nearby, each with a rating, the car and an estimated price range. You pick one, watch the car come on the map, and can message or call the driver once they have taken the ride. The app opens in Hebrew and has an English setting, which you change once. Write to the WhatsApp assistant in English and it answers in English. The telephone line works from any telephone, including one with no internet at all; it opens in Hebrew and moves to English, French or Russian once it hears you speak it, so do not hang up on the Hebrew greeting.

One thing worth knowing before you choose. An ordinary ride inside town is booked on WhatsApp for now; an ordinary ride for a later time goes through the app or the telephone instead. The airport run is the exception: it is a long trip between towns, so WhatsApp will take that one for a time in the future as well.

How do you give your address so the driver finds you?

Give the street and the house number with the town after it, the way an Israeli would say it to a driver. The name of a neighbourhood on its own covers a lot of ground; a street with a number on the end of it is a doorway. Write it the way it appears on letters that come to your door.

Two habits save a telephone call. Name the landmark if there is one — a synagogue, a school, a shopping centre — because that is how a driver finds the last hundred metres. And if the entrance is round the back, or up a flight of steps, say so when you book rather than when the driver is already outside. If you booked in the app, the driver can message you in the chat once the ride is theirs.

How long does a taxi from Beit Shemesh to Ben Gurion Airport take?

Between 33 and 46 minutes on an ordinary weekday, depending on when you leave. It is about 42 kilometres to Terminal 3. The road was at its quietest at 01:00, 03:00, 04:00, 05:00 and 06:00, all at 33 minutes, and at its slowest at 08:00 and 16:00, 46 minutes each time — a morning peak and an afternoon one.

How we measured: these are Google Maps traffic forecasts for an ordinary Tuesday, 13 October 2026, taken on 17 September 2026, from the centre of Beit Shemesh to Terminal 3. A forecast for a normal weekday, not a promise: rain, an accident or roadworks add time, and from an address on the far side of town add the drive across it.

Coming back from the airport took 31 to 50 minutes in the same measurement: 31 minutes at its quietest, leaving the airport at 01:00, 02:00, 03:00, 04:00, 05:00 and 06:00, and 50 minutes at its worst, at 16:00 and 17:00.

From Ramat Beit Shemesh it is about 48 kilometres and took 38 to 51 minutes, a few minutes more than from the centre of town at the same hours: 51 minutes leaving at 08:00 against 46 from the centre. We measured Ramat Beit Shemesh at 6 hours of the day rather than at all twenty-four, so treat its range as a sample.

Sunday is different later in the morning, not earlier. Measured for Sunday 11 October 2026, the drive was the same 33 minutes leaving at 05:00 and the same 41 minutes at 07:00 as on the Tuesday — but 48 minutes at 08:00 against 46, and 47 at 09:00 against 42. The working week starting again keeps the road busy for longer, rather than filling it earlier.

When should you leave home for a flight?

For a mid-morning flight, leave home by about a quarter past six — and for every other hour, work backwards from the time your airline wants you at the terminal, using the drive time for the hour you are actually leaving rather than an average. The table assumes three hours before take-off and adds a quarter of an hour of margin.

Each row allows the longest drive we measured in the hours the journey passes through, to stay on the safe side. If your airline asks for four hours, move everything an hour earlier.

For a flight that leaves early in the morning, book the ride the day before rather than late at night: a ride booked for a later time is offered to each driver in the hours he has asked to hear about rides, so one entered late at night usually waits until the morning before most drivers see it.

Which terminal do you need, and does it change the drive?

All international arrivals land at Terminal 3; Terminal 1 has domestic flights and some international departures. Check your ticket and say which terminal when you book.

It does change the drive, a little: Terminal 1 is about 38 kilometres from Beit Shemesh against about 42 to Terminal 3, and took 29 to 43 minutes in the same measurement — measured at 8 hours of the day rather than all twenty-four, so treat that range as a sample too. If you land at Terminal 3 and want a taxi on the spot, the licensed rank is on the pavement of the ground floor outside gate 03; it is open around the clock and those rides are paid by the meter.

How is the fare worked out from Beit Shemesh?

An ordinary ride inside town, and an ordinary ride to the airport booked in the app, run on the meter under the official price order, and the app shows you an estimated price range before you confirm. The order sets three tariffs, A, B and C, by day and hour: A is the lowest and C the highest.

Those are the official hours of the tariff. Hello Taxi itself takes no rides on Shabbat or on the rest days, so the Shabbat row applies to the meter, not to us.

Two fixed additions sit on top of the meter under the same order: one for booking a taxi rather than hailing it, and one on rides leaving Ben Gurion. There is no charge for luggage and none for extra passengers.

Beit Shemesh to the airport is a long trip between towns, so it is one of the rides where the booking channel changes how the price is set. Booked by WhatsApp for a long trip between towns, or booked for a large vehicle, the fare is the price the driver offers rather than the meter. The same is true of a long trip between towns booked by telephone. For a ride now you receive price offers from drivers and pick one; for a ride booked ahead you get a message the moment a driver takes it.

You pay cash to the driver, or by card. In the app you choose cash or card before you pick a driver; a saved card is shown by its last four digits. On WhatsApp the order depends on the ride: a short ride in town paid by card waits for your payment before it reaches a driver, while on the airport run the drivers send their prices first, you pick one, and the payment link follows the ride you chose. Either way a card ride cannot start until the payment is approved.

Can you book a bigger taxi for a family?

Yes: in the app you ask for "6+ seats" or "10+ seats", and there are also "Extra baggage" and "Wheelchair access", among others. On WhatsApp or the telephone, say you need a large vehicle. On the same screen there is a filter for a driver who speaks English, and one for Russian.

Asking for more seats or for wheelchair access takes the ride off the meter: those are priced by the driver at any distance, however you booked. Worth knowing if you are travelling with a family and a lot of luggage — book the larger car in advance rather than at the last minute. There is no box for notes and no passenger count in the app; anything else, tell the driver in the chat once the ride is theirs.

Does Hello Taxi work on Friday night and Saturday?

No. We take no rides from candle-lighting on Friday until Shabbat ends on Saturday night, and we are closed in the same way on every holy day of rest. The hour moves week by week, because it follows sunset:

So plan Friday backwards from that hour, and book a Saturday-night pickup before Shabbat begins — you can book on Friday for a time after Shabbat ends. The festivals close weekdays in the same way:

Worked out on 23 September 2026 by the same system that closes the service. A festival that falls on Shabbat closes as one day, together with it; a festival next to Shabbat runs into it as one unbroken closure of two or three days. The middle days of Sukkot and Passover are ordinary working days. Remember that Sunday is a working day in Israel, so a rest day that lands on one closes what would otherwise be a normal day.
